The Former President's Framework of Retribution and Reward

The ex-president's voracious desire for retribution has rapidly morphed into a structured framework. During the year since his election, the president's anger and caprices have assumed the guise of administrative measures in a manner comparable to historical authoritarian systems. Government officials who do not cooperate are immediately removed and replaced by devotees. Critical officials who confront him face prosecution, court proceedings and sanctions. Opponents have been designated under administration directives as “unpatriotic”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with prosecution as “extremists”.

Federal Agencies Transformed

Each instance involving prosecution of political opponents and protection for supporters displays its own unique characteristics. But, regardless of their specific character, they represent manifestations of what has arisen as a deliberate approach. These incidents are not isolated. Trump's purge of DoJ attorneys and Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, alongside his installation of supporters in key positions, began rapidly, quickly developed a pattern, and has now been formed into a system. DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been remade into political agencies under the president's direct command to carry out his wishes. Injustice has been made normal. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is focused with penalizing the leader's alleged opponents than they are with safeguarding our public welfare.

Within the System

The beginnings of this system has been exposed in the legal complaint of several ex- senior Federal Bureau executives filed in September in the federal court in DC against agency head Kash Patel and attorney general a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a campaign of retribution against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a inability to demonstrate adequate devotion”. The document states that one official, the former interim leader, recounts a discussion in which the director “openly confessed the unlawfulness of his actions”.

He had tried to shield law enforcement officers from being fired, the complaint alleges. He advised him that “White House figures” – interpreted by the official to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to remove anyone who they considered as having been involved in a criminal investigation against him. The complaint adds: “He explained that he had to fire the individuals his superiors told him to remove, because his chance to retain his own role was contingent on the removal of the officials who were involved in investigations involving the President. He noted that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI sought to place the leader in jail and he recalls it clearly.’” After he advised him he was breaking the agency's own internal rules, the director reportedly said “he understood that and he realized the essence of the immediate dismissals were likely unlawful”.

Extensive Consequences

After the director's reported confession to Driscoll, the justice department and the FBI have been dismantled and reorganized for his system of punishment. Multiple of the bureau's senior executives were dismissed or pushed out in the early weeks of the government. About thousands of professional attorneys at the justice department have agreed to a “early exit scheme”. At least seven federal prosecutors, including those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in exchange for his collaboration with Trump's federal agency roundups of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of the justice department, which oversees ethical violations, has been cut down to two attorneys. The equality section has been decimated: 70% of its employees has departed. 33% of executives at DoJ have resigned. The division enforcing environmental law has experienced the exit of half its leadership.

Incentives and Sanctions

Regarding the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, she, resigned in objection against what she characterized as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “immigration leader,” was present as the enforcer with him on a media outlet to announce: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in NYC.”. Additionally, another figure, formerly the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the deal, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a possible springboard to the supreme court.

Trump's exemption for wrongdoings carried out while in power, provided by the extraordinary ruling of the Republican majority on the judicial body, thus preventing his legal action over the political violence and preserving his public standing for the national vote, is the basis on which he stands to defend his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to authorize misconduct. The effect of the judicial ruling infuses his government and the Republican Party thoroughly. The legal case has spread. In the words of a past leader's administration lawyer the figure remarked about the Watergate
